It also automatically scans files you download from the Internet, email attachments, and files you send or receive via instant messaging software.

In AV-test.org's most recent testing of the AntiVirus packages on the market McAfee VirusScan fared reasonably well coming in around a third of the way down the pack. Positives highlighted in the results were real time adware/spyware detection, accuracy (no false positives were reported) and cleaning. However, the test results did show that McAfee VirusScan was one of the slower products on the market with scan times over 4 hours, compared to less than 2 hours for the fastest packages on the market.
